Louis Armstrong and Napoleon

I read somewhere that 40% or thereabouts of Americans believe that Darwin is wrong and that the universe was created in 7 days. And that same percentage of Americans believe that we have been visited by aliens from some other planet or dimension. The two points of view would seem to contradict each other.

Bessie Smith (July 9, 1892 or April 15, 1894September 26, 1937) was an American blues singer.

The most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and ’30s,[1]. Smith is often regarded as one of the greatest singers of her era, and along with Louis Armstrong, a major influence on subsequent jazz vocalists.

Louis Armstrong and Napoleon

August 2 by Maynard G. Krebs

“And I’m thinking that aliens are our last hope. We need someone to come down and pat us on our back. Tell us that we’re okay. That we’re more like Louis Armstrong than Napoleon. That the brown shirts are the exception. That the night of crystal is the night before Christmas That Bessie Smith’s tears will wash away Dachau. And if they don’t arrive. If they don’t settle down in a children’s ballpark in Washington and meet our best scientists and warn us to shape up. If we don’t look through our judas hole and see their tiny little toes and bright orange nails, then our loneliness will turn into guilt. And we will throw away those pieces of gold. And hang ourselves.”
