William Savage

“His interiors (the work shown on this gallery) start from sketches or photographic source material – usually of interiors. From this he designs a composition in a way that creates space, use perspective and a variety of light effects with the aim of creating an impression and feeling for, rather than literal rendering of, the subject.

To create the final artwork he usually builds up a smooth glossy ground on a board support using photographs or found images chosen and placed for their texture, tone and colour. He then use transparent acrylic paints, inks and dry media to bring out the image he has in mind whilst leaving as much as possible of the glossy ground to shine through.”

More than any other collage artist that I have looked at, Savage’s work would seem to need a personal on the spot viewing. Photographs will not do his work justice. And the work in photographs is amazing enough.

Like I said, I think you have to see the originals.
